Let`s start the hiking season!

Hiking Tour Bodenschneid

Category: Easy

Duration: 4,5 – 5 hours (net walking time without breaks to Bodenschneid summit)

Altitude difference: 900 m (Bodenschneid summit at 1,669 m)

How to get to the Bodenschneid summit:

Take the BOB (Bayerische Oberlandbahn) from the central station (Hauptbahnhof) direction to Bayerischzell and get off at Fischhausen-Neuhaus. Start the tour at the Wendelsteinstraße and go left in the Bodenschneidstraße and then right in the Dürnbachstraße. There just follow the yellow signs to the Bodenschneid summit.

If you go by car, go to Neuhaus at Schliersee and look for parking at the train station or in the Bodenschneidstraße.

To start off the hiking season in 2017 we decided to go for an easy tour in order to get back on track. Since we still wanted to enjoy a great view from the summit we picked the Bodenschneid, which is located close to the Schliersee and Tegernsee. The tour starts on a forest road and is very easy to walk, also possible for children. You will reach the Bodenschneidhaus cabin after approximately 1,5 hours of hiking – so a perfect time to enjoy a cold drink or some local specialties!

To continue the tour you have to follow the forest road on the right side of the cabin – after a few meters the road turns into a small path and that’s when all the fun began… since the spring 2017 was not warm enough, there was still a lot of snow on the mountain and we also had to cross some of the snow fields. Of course, we ended up in a fun snowball fight :). But usually, the steep path up to the summit is snow-free and is easy to hike. Once you make it up to the top, the usual reaction is a “WOW” – since you have one of the best panoramic views including the Tegernsee lake. We enjoyed our homemade food there and since it was a really nice day we stayed for a while – just make sure to bring sunscreen on a sunny day!

You could take the same way back, but we usually prefer to do a round tour if possible. So you follow the yellow signs to Untere and Obere Firstalm and start descending the steep path. Generally the path is easy to hike, too, but with all the snow it was actually kind of slippery – but we made it without falling into the mud :). Once you reach the Firstalmen cabins you can have another drink or coffee there (they are supposed to have great cakes and other treats!) or continue your way back to the Neuhaus train station.

For us, this tour to the Bodenschneid summit is the perfect start for the new hiking season, since the tour is not that long and hard, but is still demanding due to the altitude difference. As we love to enjoy an extended lunch break with a great view, the Bodenschneid summit is just perfect! Try for yourself and let us know if you liked it!
