One of the top reasons many tourists visit Munich is for its vast beer selection. That’s because beer has always been a huge part of cultural heritage and culinary history of Munich. Waldwirtschaft (aka WA-WI)

Although this beer garden’s name is hard to pronounce, it’s a must-see garden that’s known for its amazing sights and beer. Located in the southern suburbs of Munich, WA-WI provides tourists a comfy outdoor beer garden with lots of live music on the weekends and traditional food stalls, in addition to a large selection of craft beer. It’s a beer fest you won’t forget!

Biergarten Hirschgarten

As the largest beer garden on earth, Biergarten Hirschgarten can sit 8,000 people in outs tranquil outdoor space. The word  “Hirschgarten” translates to “Deer Garden,” which was named after King Ludwig’s fondness of stag-hunting parties that were supposedly supplied with more than 200 liters of beer. This refers to the 200-liter wooden casks that are used to store the Hirshen brew. There are also tons of amazing foods that pair well with beer, allowing you a feast fit for a king!

Augustiner Keller Biergarten

This beer garden is actually one of the oldest in the city and is the second largest one, seating 7,000 visitors at one time. The Augustiner Keller Biergarten dates back to 1812 and is off the beaten tourist track, which makes it kind of nice. It’s a huge hit during the summer, but if it rains, the cellar that dates back from 1807 remains open for al the fun. Fresh Augustiner beer is served right out of the huge wooden barrels, and there’s a special bell that’s always going off to announce the arrival of anew cask. You’ll also be able to get lots of hot and cheap German biergarten classics that are swerved practically all day. You can bring in your own food or feast on some food stalls randomly located throughout the garden. Get there early to snag some of the regular tables that go all the way back to 1847!

Biergarten Viktualienmarket

If you’re looking for a more centrally located beer garden, then make your way to Biergarten Viktualienmarket, which is in the hart of Munich’s oldest farmers market that was established in 1970. There are only 600 seats and it’s a pretty good mix of tourists and locals. You can either bring your own food or buy some treats at the market. You’ll love people watching as you chug down some of the best beers in the city. Every six weeks there’s a new selection, especially with some of the biggest festivals like Oktoberfest.

Park Café

Located right in the center of the city, Park Café is actually a reputable Bavarian restaurant housed in a 1930s building. The vibes of this place is elegant, cool and fun, with DJs and live music going on throughout the night. It’s definitely more of an upbeat beer garden and rumor has it that it’s owned by the same guy that’s behind the famed Schottenhamel beer tent, which a favorite at the annual Oktoberfest!
